Portland International Jetport’s Average Airfares are More Affordable than Boston

Portland, ME – May, 2012 – The Portland International Jetport  (PWM) continues to offer some of the region’s most affordable one-way airfares according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The data compared average one-way airfares from PWM and Boston’s Logan Airport and was based on airfare rates for domestic and international travel from 2011.

A summary of PWM’s airfares compared to Boston is below:

2011 Average Airfares (Domestic + International):

  • BOS: $217
  • PWM: $191

Overall average one-way airfares from Portland were cheaper by $26.

The US DOT data supports a 2011 Cheapflights.com study that named PWM the region’s most affordable airport for domestic or international travel. Portland International Jetport ranked 1st in the region, 3rd in New England, and 49th in the country.

“We are committed to delivering the best service to the traveling public, and the release of this latest airfare data confirms that PWM delivers exceptional value to its passengers,” said Paul Bradbury, Airport Director.

"What the survey doesn't show are the extra savings which can be gained by using your local airport - savings on tolls, gas, higher on-airport parking rates, and of course the cost of your time driving up to four hours roundtrip to other airports.  In addition, we will soon be announcing additional flights to several cities to and from Portland, Maine, so it’s a great time to fly PWM, plus its very convenient” added Bradbury.
