Jetport Sets July Record for Passenger Volume
July, 2009 is second largest month in the history of Portland International Jetport
Portland, Maine (August 12, 2009)—The Portland International Jetport (PWM) served 202,311 passengers during July 2009, the second month in the Jetport’s history to surpass 200,000 passengers (the other was August 2008).
The July total marks a 2.6% increase over July 2008, and is the first month during the 2008 calendar year in which PWM recorded an increase in passenger volume over the corresponding month in 2008, which was the Jetport’s busiest year ever. Airport Director Paul Bradbury attributed the increase in traffic to the airlines’ continued confidence in PWM, as well as the availability of attractive airfares to and from Maine that have enticed last-minute travelers looking for bargains.
“Our airline partners continue to see the Portland Jetport as an opportunity market,” said Bradbury. “Several carriers have added new non-stop routes out of Portland, including AirTran to Atlanta and (Continental to Cleveland), while others have increased the size of the aircraft they are operating out of Portland.”
To date, the Jetport has served 969,137 passengers during the 2009 calendar year, compared to 1,009,676 during the same period of 2008.
