Honor Flight Maine's Inaugural Flight for WWII Veteran Heroes

Portland, ME -  On Monday, August 25th, twenty-five WWII veterans will be part of an inaugural flight from the Portland International Jetport headed south for Washington, D.C. to visit national memorials honoring their service. The trip is made possible by Honor Flight Maine, a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for their service. Through donations, the organization provides transportation to the nation’s capital to visit and reflect at their memorials, many of whom are seeing them for the first time. Priority for the trips is given to senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with veterans who are ill.

Arrival at the airport is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. where they will be met by friends, family, Honor Guards as well as volunteers and well wishers.  The community is welcomed and encouraged to come out to the Jetport and help send these heroes off on the their journey.  The group is scheduled to return on Wednesday.
