The Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy at the Portland Jetport (PWM) is a week-long, aviation-based day camp for students ages 12-16. This exciting and action-packed adventure offers students a rare and unique opportunity to see how the world's safest aviation system works, and also, weather permitting, experience a flight in a light general aviation aircraft! Campers will learn the basics of aviation through limited classroom instruction, many hands on activities, and several field trips to airports and air traffic control facilities.
Only 20 students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tuition is $350.00 for the week and this covers staff, transportation, hats and T-shirts, model rockets, art supplies and awards. Financial Aid may be available for those who need it.
Camp is filling fast so if you want to go you need to hurry!
FAA Mission for ACE Academies: ACE Academies are summer educational programs for middle and high school students that can last from one day to one week. ACE Academies are co-sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) along with many other organizations.
The focus is on aviation career exploration with emphasis on opportunities for women and minorities. Students experience instruction in aviation history, the physics of flight, field trips to aviation sites and hands-on activities.
The plan is to have at least one program in each state and U.S. territory. This program reaches approximately 2,000 students each summer. Dates, locations, cost and age requirements vary according to sponsoring organizations.
